Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot: Claresholm, Alberta

Those wishing to immigrate to Canada can apply for permanent residency in the municipality of Claresholm.

Claresholm is a small town in the province of Alberta, which is an hour and a half drive from Calgary. Claresholm accepts applications under the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, which is designed for candidates wishing to immigrate to small Canadian towns.

Applicants must receive a community recommendation. For this, you must meet the requirements of the immigration program and the requirements of the town where you plan to move.

Federal requirements

All applicants interested in applying for a recommendation from Claresholm must meet the requirements of the federal government:

  • 1 year of work experience within the last 3 years;
  • high school education;
  • language proficiency at the level appropriate to the profession;
  • sufficient amount of money;
  • job offer in the community.

Claresholm community requirements

To apply for immigration to Claresholm, you must meet the federal requirements listed above. Claresholm does not impose additional requirements, but will assess applicants according to the following criteria:

  • language proficiency;
  • age;
  • wage proposed by a Claresholm employer;
  • social contributions to the community;
  • experience of living in Claresholm and other connections to the community;
  • experience of living in other rural and remote communities;
  • family or friends in Claresholm.

If you plan to immigrate with your spouse/common-law partner, the municipality will also assess what they can contribute to the economic and social life of the town. The following spousal factors can increase your chances of immigration:

  • proficiency in one of the official languages;
  • work permit in Canada;
  • education that meets the needs of the Claresholm labour market;
  • social contributions to the community;
  • work experience in an occupation that is in demand in Claresholm;
  • experience of living in Claresholm;
  • family or friends in Claresholm.
