Immigration to Alberta for Tourism Workers

The Tourism and Hospitality stream of Alberta's provincial program is designed for workers in the tourism and hospitality sector who a local employer has employed for at least six months.

Eligibility requirements

To apply for permanent residency through the Tourism and Hospitality stream, candidates must meet several requirements:

• Have a job offer in Alberta in one of the eligible occupations (see below), along with a work permit based on a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA);
• Have worked for at least 6 months for the same employer offering the job;
• Have completed high school education;
• Possess English or French language skills at level 4 or higher on the Canadian CLB scale (basic level).

The employer providing the job offer must be a member of one of the industry associations listed on the official Alberta website, or be listed as a service provider on the Travel Alberta website.

Eligible occupations

Alberta considers applications only from candidates with specific occupations:

• Program leaders and instructors in recreation, sport and fitness;
• Restaurant and food service managers;
• Accommodation service managers;
• Food service supervisors;
• Chefs;
• Cooks;
• Maîtres d'hôtel and hosts/hostesses;
• Bartenders;
• Hotel front desk clerks;
• Tour and travel guides;
• Outdoor sport and recreational guides;
• Food and beverage servers;
• Food counter attendants, kitchen helpers and related support occupations;
• Support occupations in accommodation, travel and facilities set-up services;
• Light duty cleaners;
• Specialized cleaners;
• Janitors, caretakers and heavy duty cleaners;
• Dry cleaning, laundry and related occupations.

How to apply

If you meet the requirements of the Tourism and Hospitality Stream, you can apply on the provincial website. You will be assessed on factors such as age, education, language skills, work experience, a job offer in Alberta, and more. The most successful applicants will be invited to permanent residency.
