Is it easy to lose the right to drive and the car in Canada?
Speeding on the roads is the key to the safety of citizens. That's why the police in Canada have the right to take away not only the license but also the car from the offender.
This is what happened to the driver who exceeded the speed limit more than twice. The man had just passed the test and had received a category G driver's license. On a stretch of road with a permitted speed of 50 km/h, he accelerated to 118 km/h.
The police stopped the offender and confiscated his driver's license for 30 days and his car for two weeks.
A driver's license is a mandatory document for driving a car as well as for identification. The license is accepted in many institutions and is almost equivalent to a passport.
In order to obtain a class G driver's license, you must take two courses of theory and pass road tests.
With the initial passing of the theory and road test, the driver receives a category G1. This class of license implies a number of restrictions:
- you can't drive a car between 00:00 and 5:00;
- you can't drive on the 400 roads (high-speed highways);
- you must be accompanied by a driver with a category G license.
After 12 months, you can take the license for category G2. A driver's license in this category entitles you to:
- drive independently on any roads and highways;
- drive a car at any time of the day;
- reduce insurance payments.
After one year, you can take a road test and get a Full G license.
Driver's licenses differ in colour in each province. The document necessarily indicates age, address of residence, period of validity and has a photo.
