Refugees from Ukraine will be able to get a permanent residence permit faster

In 2022, more than 132,000 Ukrainians came to Canada under different programs. 470,000 applications for visas were confirmed under the CUAET special permit.

In an interview, Justin Trudeau promised Ukrainian refugees that they could apply for permanent resident status in Canada if they wished. As the prime minister said, he sees that there are many who want to stay in Canada. Although there are also those who dream of returning home sooner and reuniting with their families.

These are the words Trudeau said during a conversation with journalists in Toronto at a bakery that was created by Ukrainian migrants.

Some Ukrainian refugees have already begun to settle in Canada and work for the country. For example, Anastasia Solyanik, 35, from Kyiv, left her hometown in February 2022. She first went to France with her 8-year-old son and then met her husband, a sailor who was travelling for work in Montreal.

She organized a dance class in Montreal as part of a wellness program for refugees from Ukraine.

Dance therapy, the girl says, helps to fight stress and negative emotions, as well as to adapt to Canadian life.

Psychologists are working with the refugees. According to one of them, the newcomers faced a number of unpleasant experiences. They need help and support to cope with the turmoil more easily.

Canadian refugee settlement agencies help find housing and employment, place children in schools and kindergartens, and adapt to society. Immigration services try to provide not only material support but also psychological support.

The main problems faced by Ukrainian refugees are the lack of universal access to interpreters. Because of language barriers, it is difficult for Ukrainians to get qualified medical care.
