What has changed?

Employees of universities and other major corporations on Forbes' top list praised employers for their concern during the pandemic. For example, 32 teachers of English at the University of Victoria were not needed, as the number of foreign students decreased. But they were not left without work, they were transferred to other positions in related specialties.

Professional development and retraining were provided by the University. Like the other institutions ranked high on the list, it gives employees the opportunity to receive additional education free of charge.

The Canadian Mental Health Association cares about the psychological comfort of not only clients but also employees, making efforts to ensure that they maintain a work-life balance. In other areas of work, Forbes employers have also tried to make it easier for their employees to transition to remote work and provide support to those who have fallen ill with coronavirus or have lost loved ones.

As for employers' requirements, the most sought-after skills have not changed since last year, but the competition among applicants has increased and clients' requirements to the service have become higher. As before, even more than before, companies need people who can work with people, specialists in sales and remote support — but the number of candidates for such jobs has multiplied due to the mass transition to remote work.

According to Randstad Canada's head, in 2022 the Canadian labour market will value such qualities of employers and employees as adaptability, efficiency and responsiveness to changing circumstances. Planning, self-organization abilities will become paramount skills.
