A record amount of cocaine and methamphetamine was seized in Toronto
Police have reported back on the results of the extensive investigation.
Toronto police said a lengthy investigation into a drug trafficking network has culminated in seven arrests and the seizure of the largest shipment of crystal methamphetamine and powdered cocaine in the agency's history
We are talking about 551 kilograms of cocaine and 441 kilograms of methamphetamine. The project with such a successful completion was codenamed Finito, and the investigation lasted for 3.5 months. During a press conference on Friday, November 17, police officials noted that the total consignment was valued at CA$ 90 million.
Other items seized during the investigation include a firearm, a vehicle and approximately CA$ 95,000 in cash. All of the suspects arrested in connection with this case are residents of the Greater Toronto Area. And the drugs were brought into Canada from the U.S. — mostly through land border crossings.
All seven of those arrested are men between the ages of 20 and 43. In addition to charges of unlawful possession and distribution of a controlled substance, the detainees are charged with human trafficking, criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Two suspects remain in custody while the other five have been released on bail.
