A new online application method is available to refugees

The ministry is opening up new opportunities for sending documents to PML.

IRCC has announced that it has expanded the system for refugee sponsorship groups to apply for permanent residence. Applications can now be submitted not only by e-mail but also through a specialized portal, and by the end of the year, the department will also open it to some more government-sponsored partners in this area.

This method of application is much more convenient and secure. It guarantees the sender no delays, eliminates many procedural errors and provides immediate confirmation that the application has been successfully submitted.

Online submission also streamlines the intake process by eliminating the possibility of sending incomplete applications. This will save ministry staff time and allow them to focus on working on valid applications.

Sponsorship groups are organizations operating within the framework of the special Refugee Sponsorship Training Program (RSTP). They provide assistance to persons who have already been officially recognized as refugees in the country of asylum (i.e. where they currently reside) and can provide documentary proof of this status.

The Canadian authorities promise to assist in the successful transition to the new way of application by providing training and information sessions for those wishing to apply. From January 1, 2024, the Department of Immigration will only accept applications submitted in two ways: through the portal or by mail.
