Final selections for those wishing to work and travel in Canada

Invitations sent through the Canadian equivalent of the Work and Travel system

Canada's Department of Immigration has completed the selection season for the International Experience Canada (IEC) program, a kind of analog of the U.S. Work and Travel system. In the last round of the year, 2,967 people received invitations in three areas:

  • Working Holiday — participants are eligible to work across Canada for any Canadian employer;
  • Young Professionals — participants are authorized to work for a specific employer to gain targeted experience in their field of study;
  • International Co-op Internship — for students from a higher education institution in their home country with work authorization from a Canadian employer.

On October 23, 2023, IRCC announced the closure of the pool for this year. Registered Invited Candidates (who resieved ITA) can still complete the application and request work authorization. All other candidates' profiles will be removed from the pool. You will need to re-register for the 2024 season.

This IEC season opened on January 9 with a quota of 90,000 invitations. Having reached that mark, however, IRCC did not stop there. A total of 131,541 candidates from more than 30 countries were selected for 2023.

The International Experience Canada program provides an opportunity for people between the ages of 18 and 35 to gain international work experience, learn about Canadian culture and contribute to the Canadian economy.
