Canada joins World Cup playoffs
Tomorrow is the quarterfinals day.
Every year world best hockey nations compete in the World Championships, the world's premier hockey tournament. Traditionally the favorite is the Maple Leaf team, which has won the tournament 27 times.
This year the tournament is being held for the 86th time. The host countries are Latvia and Finland, also the strongest teams in Europe. Initially, the tournament was to be held in Russia, but the Russian team was excluded from the competition.
The tournament has been going on since May 12, with the final game on Sunday 28. Finland is hosting the World Cup for the tenth time, and Latvia for the third time.
The Canadian national team has played seven games so far, winning first four spectacularly. In total, they have managed to score 25 goals in those games. However, they lost two games, to Switzerland and Norway.
Nevertheless, things are going right for Canada. In yesterday's match, Canada defeated the Czech Republic 3-1, guaranteeing them entry into the final stage. The first quarterfinal match will take place tomorrow, May 25. The Canadians will fight against the Finns.
Fans of the Maple Leaf national team know better than anyone that at the playoff stage it is almost impossible to stop Canadians at playoffs.
