Young Canadians are not ready to have children
And also to marry because of today's economy.
Many young Canadians are in no hurry to have children and get married. This is the conclusion reached by specialists from eHarmony, a company that provides online dating services.
According to a recent study, young folks talk about economic circumstances when it comes to marriage and children. Food prices are steadily rising, the cost of living is getting higher, so there's no such option as taking care of a child. Childfree ideas, refusal to have children, are not driven by ideological principles, but by economic indicators.
17% of the couples surveyed postponed their engagement, and 15% of respondents decided not to celebrate their wedding for the time being. They understand that in the current circumstances, they cannot afford these expenses, and therefore they simply do not need them.
"The decision to have a child is deeply complex. Folks who are already coupled might be facing the realization of all that comes with parenting such as time, energy, resources, finances, and most importantly, stability," says relationship expert eHarmony.
50% of singles believe that the cost of having a child is the most important obstacle for them. Young Canadians are not ready to cut back on their own living expenses, with rising food prices and housing rent.
But that doesn't mean Canadians are strongly against becoming parents. 47% point out that better jobs and additional childcare benefits could help a lot.
And although we wrote recently that the Canadian economy is growing, there are many difficulties in the lives of youngsters who would like to have children but are not yet ready to go for it.
