Canadian students are changing the education system

How to improve education? Ask those who are involved more than others.

In Saskatchewan, a Post-Secondary Student Council will be created. Through this organization, the Ministry of Advanced Education will be able to communicate directly with high school students on a wide range of issues. High school students will share their opinions on the education system, current trends, and other issues.

The council that will begin work in September 2023, will include about 20 people and try to be as diverse as possible. The council will select students based on background, experience, interests, and educational prospects. Board members will be re-elected every year.

"Engaging students in conversations around their post-secondary experience will help us better understand what helps them to succeed," Advanced Education Minister Gordon Wyant said. "This student council will give us a platform to connect with students and gain valuable insights and perspectives."

Institutions will nominate students based on criteria that include geographic location, diversity group, and type of credential. Students being nominated must provide examples of leadership, teamwork skills, and community impact. Students interested in joining the council may contact the Ministry of Advanced Education. A ministry selection committee will review nominations and select students for the council.
