The province of Ontario needs construction workers

The region needs to fill thousands of workplaces.

The government of Ontario has allocated an investment of $3.7 million CAD to hire construction workers. According to current estimates, the province will need 100,000 construction workers in the next decade to carry out its plans to develop the region's infrastructure.

The investment will go to Merit Ontario, a local organization that supports contractors who hire workers. Merit Ontario should be hiring more than 2,500 professionals in the near future. Vacancies are posted on a special portal. Many of them are looking for workers in small towns in the province.

For those already in Canada, there is also an educational center that offers free online training in the construction industry.

"Construction workers are the heroes who keep our province alive by building the roads, hospitals, homes and schools that we rely on every day," said Monte McNaughton, Ontario's labour minister.

It's not just the construction industry that needs workers. Right now, there are more than 360,000 unfilled jobs in Ontario.
