Canada Top 10 Safest Countries for Women Travelling Alone

The country has the lowest level of domestic violence among the rating participants.

The Bounce company examined data on various aspects of gender equality and safety for women, including domestic violence laws, homicide rates, and how safe women feel walking at night in their country.

According to her ranking, Canada was ranked as the eighth safest country for women traveling alone.

Ireland led the way, while Austria, Norway, Slovenia and Switzerland finished in the top 5. Canada scored 6.67 out of 10, compared to Ireland's 7.88.

The overall assessment was based on seven different dimensions, including:

  • the percentage of women in the country who reported experiencing violence;
  • the number of women per 100,000 homicide victims;
  • percentage of women who reported feeling safe walking alone at night;
  • the percentage of women in the country who agree that a husband's violence against his wife can be justified.

It also assessed how strong domestic violence laws are in each country. In addition, the company took into account the ranking in the generalized safety index created by Numbeo, a database provided by users, and the country rating in the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report 2021.

The study found that Canada has the lowest rate of reported domestic violence and some of the most effective domestic violence laws.

Colombia was found to be the least safe for women of the 34 countries on the list. Surprisingly, the progressive United States ranked 32nd on the list, right above Costa Rica.
