New benefits for families in Ontario

The money will be transferred from the provincial government.

Government of Ontario announced budget changes that include providing direct payments to families with students.

In April 2022, the province launched a program to help schoolchildren and students close the gaps in their learning caused by the pandemic. It includes curriculum reform, preparation of schools for the first school year after the pandemic, funding for classroom construction, and social development for children through extracurricular activities. A total of $26.6 billion CAD was budgeted, "the largest investment in public education in Ontario's history."

Now Ontario is adding $225 million CAD to the plan to pay parents of students directly. The details of the project are not yet known: The government will issue a separate statement about who can qualify for the transfer and how it will take place.

It is also reported that in addition to helping families with students, the province is increasing Ontario's Disability Support Program payments by 5%. The decision was made due to a significant increase in inflation.
