Super Visa becomes more affordable
Relatives of permanent residents of Canada will be able to stay longer in the country.
Each year, the Department of Immigration issues about 17,000 super visas to parents and grandparents of permanent residents and Canadian citizens. The visa is valid for ten years.
The recent legislative bill proposed by conservatives was approved on two counts. The minimum income requirements for the invitee were not lowered. But as of July 4, 2022, the continuous stay in Canada on supervisory grounds was increased from two to five years. Those who have already come to Canada on supervisory leave can request an extension of two more years.
For now, only Canadian companies can buy medical insurance for relatives by inviting them to the country. But the Minister of Immigration has been allowed to choose insurance companies in other countries for accreditation. Soon, information about international insurance companies that are authorized to sell policies to people coming to Canada on supervised visit will be posted on the Department of Immigration's website.
