There is a particular shortage of workers in British Columbia.

Unemployment in Canada has fallen to record levels, but there are still plenty of open positions. Of the 40 countries whose labor markets were surveyed by international staffing agency ManpowerGroup, only Mexico, India and Brazil have more employers in need of new hires.

15% of Canadian organizations have difficulty hiring qualified technicians. The situation is even worse in manufacturing, agriculture, fishing and forestry, mining, IT and media — about half of employers cannot fill vacancies.

Nonprofits are the only sector of the Canadian economy where cuts are to be expected. Inflation in Canada has reached 6.8%, with average grocery prices up 9.7% since last year and wages up only 3.3%. Since profit is not the main goal of organizations in the nonprofit sector, it is difficult for them to offer competitive wages.
