The Canadian province has established a new car registration process

The Ontario government has announced changes to the way new vehicles are registered when you buy a car.

Ontario is updating the province's vehicle registration process, moving the entire process to an online format.

The government today launched a digital vehicle registration system that will be tested at some Ontario dealerships this spring. The measure is expected to reduce paperwork and save time and costs for consumers and businesses. Car dealerships will now be able to register cars online and issue permits and licence plates directly to customers.

"With the full implementation of digital registration at dealerships, more than 7,000 car dealerships in Ontario will have access to a dedicated online program for the first time, the use of which will eliminate problems such as duplicate paperwork and time-consuming trips to Ontario service centers," the government said Tuesday.

It was also added that 4.8 million registrations, including used vehicle registrations, as well as vehicle transfers and replacement vehicle permits, would be conducted online each year through the system. Currently, all of the above-mentioned types of registrations must be done in person.
