Canadian director Ivan Reitman died in his bed in his sleep at the age of 75
His family moved from Czechoslovakia to Canada after World War II.
Ivan Reitman's best-known films are the comedies "Ghostbusters," "Ghostbusters 2" and "Kindergarten Cop." For the reboot of the Ghostbusters franchise, the 2016 film of the same name from director Paul Fig, Reitman wrote the script.
In total the director made 21 films. He mostly made comedies, but there were exceptions: the robinsonade "Six Days, Seven Nights" and the sports drama "Draft Day". Reitman has also produced films of a wide variety of genres -— 74 films in all, including the latest film franchise, "Ghostbusters: The Heirs," and has written several screenplays.
In 2010, Ivan Reitman became an Officer of the Order of Canada, the highest civilian award for services to his country and to humanity. Officer is the second rank of the Order, higher only to Companions, whose number is limited to 165 living subjects of Canada.
