Most in-demand occupations in Nova Scotia
The demand for these specialties has increased because of the pandemic.
Canadian job search portal Job Bank has released a government study of the labour market in the province of Nova Scotia. Many sectors have cut staff because of the pandemic, but there are areas where, conversely, the need for staffing has increased.
Administrative positions
Many of these professionals can work remotely, so they are hardly affected by the pandemic. The most in-demand professions:
- financial auditors and accountants;
- administrative staff;
- general office staff;
- administrative assistants.
Natural and applied sciences
Companies in this area have coped relatively well with the pandemic because employees have been able to work remotely or at a physical distance. Particularly good job prospects are now for engineers in various fields, as well as for IT specialists. In-demand professions:
- information systems analysts and consultants;
- software developers;
- interactive system developers;
- watch officers;
- technician support.
Health
10% of Nova Scotians are now employed in the health care industry. There was a demand for health care professionals before the pandemic because of the growing popularity of home care, but COVID-19 has increased it markedly. What kind of professionals are needed now:
Trade, transport and production
This sector was also not greatly affected by the pandemic. Workers had to keep their distance and use personal protective equipment. Workers such as construction workers, carpenters, etc. are always in demand. More highly specialized occupations, such as heavy equipment operators, have become more in demand due to construction of health care facilities, roads and private sector.
