Quebec has made it possible for immigrants to learn the language for free
The conditions have become much more attractive.
As of July 1, 2021, more immigrants would have free access to French courses offered by the Quebec government. Financial aid for students has also been increased, and some conditions have been simplified for the convenience of new immigrants.
Future immigrants to the province who already have a Quebec selection certificate (CAQ) but are still living in another country will now have access to the courses. They will be able to take online French courses with a tutor. Asylum seekers are also admitted to this format.
Financial aid has also increased. If a prospective immigrant chooses to take French courses, he or she can claim a reimbursement of $1,800 CAD. Those who took language courses two years before receiving the selection certificate will also be eligible for reimbursement upon arrival in Quebec.
If you live in Quebec and are learning French in a course from the Quebec government, the amount of financial aid will range from $188 CAD to $200 CAD per week for full-time courses and from $15 CAD to $25 CAD per day for part-time courses.
Temporary foreign workers can now also attend French courses free of charge and qualify for financial aid. They are no longer required to have a Quebec selection certificate and a study permit.
