Ontario continues to lift restrictions

Ontario continues to lift restrictions

There doesn't seem to be much left until the full opening.

The Ontario government says the province will move to phase two release restrictions on June 30 at 12:01 a.m. local time. Thanks to the success in vaccination, this will happen two days earlier than planned. The province has already reached rates of 76% of the population having one vaccination and 27% having two. Infection rates also continue to decline. For most of June, the infection rate remained below 500 cases per day.

What will change in the second phase:

  • outdoor meetings and organized events with a limit of 25 people;
  • meetings on the premises are limited to 5 people;
  • essential enterprises operate with a limited capacity of 50%;
  • secondary enterprises — with a 25% capacity;
  • beauty and grooming establishments are limited to 25% capacity and visitors and staff must wear masks;
  • outdoor dining for up to 6 people at a table (exception if there are more people in the household);
  • religious services and ceremonies, including weddings and funerals, are limited to 25% of the room capacity;
  • outdoor exercise only with a distance of 3 meters between the athletes;
  • children's camps must follow the instructions of the local health authorities;
  • sports games with spectators, as well as concerts, theatres, cinemas and festivals are limited to a capacity of 25%.

The change will not affect the Waterlu area, where the Delta variant, first detected in India, is now spreading. Waterloo is expected to move to the second stage in mid-July.

A minimum of three weeks will need to pass between the second and third phase of removal of restrictions. To move to the third phase, 80% of Ontarians will need to be vaccinated once and 25% will need to be vaccinated twice.
