It will become more difficult to buy guns in Canada
The federal government is changing the law on gun ownership.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced at a recent press conference that starting July 7, Canadians applying for a firearms licence will now have to undergo a background check that covers their entire lives, not just the last five years.
"Just in the last few days we have witnessed gun violence in some of our cities," the Prime Minister said.
This is most likely a reference to the recent shooting in Toronto, in which three children were wounded, one of whom is still in critical condition. The perpetrator of the incident, a 24-year-old Toronto resident, has already been charged with intentional use of a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm without a licence and registration certificate.
Trudeau also said his government will legally force gun retailers to keep records of all goods sold and strengthen oversight of firearms transportation.
