Thousands of people protest in Montreal
People once again expressed their dissatisfaction with the current restrictions.
More than 1,000 people took part in a Saturday demonstration on June 5, calling on the Quebec government to lift sanitary restrictions. The protest took place despite the fact that quarantine measures had already been partially relaxed in the city on Monday.
Lucy Mandeville, one of the organizers of the demonstration, said the protesters were not against sanitary measures, but wanted the freedom to choose which rules to follow.
"I'm here to protect people who are suffering from the measures in place," Lucy said.
This is not the first demonstration against restrictions that has taken place in Montreal. According to the police, the protest ended peacefully. Although people did not keep their distance and many were without masks, no fines or arrests were reported by officers.
Not all Montrealers supported the calls to lift the restrictions. Mathieu Orlando, who works as a paramedic, said the province of Quebec is on the right track and now is not the time to loosen sanitary measures.
