Quebec loosened restrictions and may abolish masks for vaccinated people

The provincial opening plan is divided into four phases. The first one is already in force.

The province of Quebec has finally lifted some of the most drastic quarantine measures it has imposed to combat the pandemic. For the first time in a long time, residents of the province may not observe curfews, dine in patio restaurants and gather with family and friends in their backyards.

The provincial opening plan has a total of 4 phases, the first of which is already in effect. May 28th the following relaxations took place:

  • the curfew has been lifted;
  • it is permitted to dine on the terraces of the restaurants;
  • gatherings of up to 8 people outdoors on private property are permitted;
  • residents can travel within the province;
  • up to 2,500 guests are permitted in theatres and arenas, subject to safety precautions.

The next phase of Quebec's opening goes into effect June 11:

  • bar terraces open up;
  • organized outdoor sports activities in groups of up to 25 people are allowed.

The third phase is scheduled for June 25. By that time, the province should have at least 75% of the population 12 years and older vaccinated once. Reliefs will be as follows:

  • camps are opening up;
  • public events and outdoor festivals are allowed, with a limit of 2,500 people;
  • easing of mask and distance requirements for fully vaccinated individuals.

The last phase will take effect tentatively at the end of August if 75% of the population over the age of 12 is vaccinated with two doses. At this point, restrictions are almost completely removed:

  • a return to full-time education in schools and universities;
  • gradual return of employees to the workplace;
  • the further removal of restrictions on meetings, sports and recreation;
  • increasing the number of people allowed at indoor venues and outdoor events;
  • easing of the requirement to wear masks and keep a distance for fully vaccinated people in public places and at events.
