One province in Canada will make travel free for children

Parents will be able to save hundreds of dollars a year.

In September, when school starts, children up to and including age 12 living in B.C. will be able to ride public transportation for free.

The provincial government has allocated $26 million CAD for this program. 340,000 children will have access to free travel.

Savings for parents are estimated at $400-672 CAD per child per year, depending on the area of residence. Currently, only children under 5 years of age can ride for free.

Free travel for children was one of the goals of the BC New Democratic Party (BC NDP), which it announced for the 2020 election.
