Biden: the U.S. has no closer friend than Canada
Justin Trudeau and Joe Biden had an online meeting, saying many nice words to each other.
As you know, the two world leaders first met back in 2016, when Biden was vice president, and their friendship has only grown stronger since then.
On Tuesday, February 23, the heads of state held a video call and discussed COVID-19, climate change, competition with China, NATO and national security, as well as issues related to the Arctic. Speaking to reporters after the two-hour meeting ended, both Trudeau and Biden spoke about the importance of the relationship between Canada and the United States.
"Canadians and Americans have innovative, creative, entrepreneurial, competitive and open hearts," Biden said. — There's nothing we can't accomplish by committing ourselves to it."
"The United States has no closer and more important friend than Canada," Biden added during the call.
"Canada and the United States are each other's closest allies, most important trading partners and old friends," Trudeau responded, "and we are coming together to defeat this pandemic and build a better future.
Trudeau ended his remarks by telling President Biden that he hopes to see him in person soon, adding the words "merci, mon ami," which is French for "thank you, my friend," at the end.
Biden also responded in French, saying "goodbye" to Trudeau as he left the screen.
