Working in Canada without English: Three Options

Working in Canada without English: Three Options

Many brave and desperate people want to go to work in Canada, but are not willing to "make the sacrifice" and learn the language. How realistic is this?

If you want to try to find a job in Canada without knowing English, there are only three ways to do it.

1. You are going to work in a Russian-speaking environment

According to the 2016 census, more than 2 million people with origins in the former Soviet Union live in Canada. There are many people with Ukrainian and Russian roots in large cities: Vancouver, Winnipeg, Montreal, Regina, Saskatoon, Toronto, Edmonton.

For example, you can find work in Russian-speaking families as a nanny or a carer. Or you could give fitness classes, give massages, or collect bouquets for Russian-speaking clients. Beauty masters (manicures, eyelashes, hair and make-up) who have trained in the CIS countries are also very much appreciated amongst the Russian-speaking population abroad.Working in Canada without knowing the language

2. Are you willing to do physical work

If you accept low-skilled work and low wages, you can try to find a job in a field where you are not required to communicate with customers. For example, you could become a loader, farm worker, plasterer or cleaner. The minimum wages in Canada ($11-15 Canadian dollars an hour) may seem like real wealth to you, but don't forget that food and housing are expensive here too. For example, according to the website Numbeo, the prices of consumer goods and the cost of rent in Toronto are on average 80% higher than in Moscow. It's also worth remembering that it can be difficult for you to find even a low-paying job, as both movers and cleaners need to communicate at least with management and understand the job tasks. 3. Do you know French

French is Canada's second official language. It is taught in schools, can be spoken by 30% of the population, and is the native language for more than 20% of Canadians. With knowledge of French, it is not difficult to find a job in the French-speaking province of Quebec. The language is also widely used in New Brunswick and Ontario. There are several programs for recruiting foreign francophone workers in Canada. For example, there are recruiting companies that work with the Canadian visa centre in Paris.
