Large enterprises in Canada impose a cap on the number of workers

It has become known what the limitation of the number of working specialists at the largest industrial sites of the province is related to.

B.C.'s public health officer has issued an order to cut staff at five major industrial sites. This decision, he said, is due to the need to reduce the number of COVID-19 cases.

Dr. Bonnie Henry stated that the number of infected Canadians is directly linked to projects that employ hundreds or thousands of people. In particular, she highlighted such facilities located in British Columbia:

  • Site C dam design near Fort St. John.
  • LNG Canada project liquefaction and export facility at Kitimat.
  • Coastal GasLink pipeline from Dawson Creek to Kitimat.
  • Tunnel near Kitimat for Rio Tinto's aluminium smelter.
  • Trans Mountain Pipeline from Edmonton to Burnaby.

You can read more about the order on the official British Colubmies website at link.

A seasonal slowdown in the spread of coronavirus helped interrupt the cycle of infection at the sites, but now that workers are returning to work en masse, the danger has risen again.

However, despite the restriction, businesses and projects will be able to hire additional employees beyond the quota if they demonstrate the ability to work without increasing the number of illnesses.
