Learning English for Immigration

Learning English for Immigration

Knowing a foreign language at a sufficient level is the first step when moving to another country. Let's find out what the possibilities are for learning languages and then taking language tests.

If you want to immigrate to another country, the first thing to do is to learn a foreign language. In theory, everyone understands that English is needed for finding a job faster, adapting faster in a new place or the trivial ability to ask for directions to the nearest "library". You can try to dismiss these statements and claim that everything will be learned faster in a language environment. This is partly true, but in practice it is more complicated.

Taking a language test

Many countries require the results of a language test when applying for emigration or for admission to a foreign university. These can be IELTS (International English Language Testing System), TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), TEF (Test d'Evaluation de Français), TEFAQ (Test d'évaluation de français pour l'accès au Québec), etc.

The test takes a few hours. It usually consists of 4 parts: speaking, writing, reading and listening comprehension. After a few weeks, the results of each category are known. The higher the score, the higher the chance of immigration.

Taking the IELTS test

IELTS certificate is the most popular certificate in the world. There are 2 varieties of the test: Academic IELTS and General Training IELTS. The first one is required for admission to a university in an English-speaking country, the second one is for those who have chosen another way of immigration.

You can get a score from 1.0 to 9.0 on the IELTS exam. When moving to Australia, scores are only given for an IELTS score of 7.0. For Canada, depending on the program chosen, it is 4.0-7.0.
