Canada considers tougher migration regime for Mexicans
Canada's public safety and immigration ministers have proposed drastic measures.
Canadian authorities are looking for ways to limit the flow of Mexican citizens seeking asylum in the country. This was stated by Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc. His statement logically continues the statements of the Prime Minister of Quebec. Francois Legault the other day expressed concern about the increase in the number of refugees arriving by airplane because of the lack of visa restrictions for Mexicans.
LeBlanc specified that together with Immigration Minister Mark Miller, they are looking at the option of introducing visas and other controls, namely "the appropriate way to ensure that people who arrived from Mexico arrived for the appropriate reasons and that this doesn’t become sort of a side door to get access to Canada." LeBlanc has not yet said anything more specific about the upcoming changes.
Immigration policy, which is set by Ottawa, has come under criticism for the worsening housing crisis and the exorbitant strain on provincial education and health care systems due to population growth.
