The province of Newfoundland and Labrador will introduce electronic medical records
The Department of Health is introducing a new way to receive health care services.
The provincial government of Newfoundland and Labrador has announced a new online service that will make it easier for residents of the province to access health care services. The service is essentially an electronic health record accessible through the province's MyGovNL account.
With it, residents will have online access to their test results, prescribed medications, x-ray reports and allergy information, as well as mental and physical health resources.
The service is scheduled to launch on Feb. 1 for the first 5,000 people in the 16 and older age group. In the following months, access will be expanded to up to 50,000 more people in the province. Users will also be able to give their relatives access to this information.
Mobile app
A mobile application, including a personal medical record, is also under development, which will allow patients to keep up to date with their medical appointments and discuss them with doctors based on up-to-date data. Over time, the functionality of the app will expand to include the ability to make an appointment with a doctor and navigate the health care system, as well as interact with participating physicians.
This digital service will not only make it easier for patients to access their medical data, but will also reduce the administrative burden on physicians and medical staff by simplifying information management.
