Canada's west coast will be hit by surf

Canada

Five-meter waves will hit Vancouver and Victoria.

Environment Canada has issued weather warnings for much of the B.C. coast, warning of ocean swells that will reach seven meters.

Wind gusts in Victoria of up to 110 km/h are forecast from Wednesday morning to Thursday evening. In open coastal areas they could reach 120 km/h. Large waves, storm surges and seasonal tides could cause high water levels. And even flooding is possible along coastlines and in low-lying areas.

On the west coast of Vancouver Island, waves will reach five to seven meters in height. They will create higher water levels along the coast and slam into the island.

A notice from Environment Canada states that these waves are likely to cause damage to coastal infrastructure. In addition, anyone planning to travel by ferry is advised to check weather conditions and service notices on the B.C. Ferries website.

By Wednesday morning, more than 2,000 homes in B.C. remain without power still after Monday's storm, which de-energized about 28,000 households.
