Canada discontinues simplified residence permits
That said, the Department of Immigration is working to speed up the standard procedure.
On February 28, 2023, Immigration Minister Marc Miller announced a policy of temporary simplified processing of Temporary Resident Visa applications (TRV). This was due to the accumulation of a large number of applications during the pandemic restrictions. Now that there is no longer an urgent need, this policy is being rescinded by Miller's personal order.
The termination of this policy will not affect those who have already obtained TRV under the simplified procedure. These people can continue to travel to Canada until their visa expires.
At the same time, IRCC promises to continue working to reduce processing times and address the backlog in the system.
According to the plan, the simplified procedure for issuing a temporary resident visa was to be valid until December 31, 2023. However, the text of the order immediately indicated that the temporary policy could be terminated at any time by decision of the minister.
