Ministry of Immigration begins accepting applications from Yazidis

Another family reunification program.

Canadian authorities are returning to the problem of refugees affected by ISIS. For more than 1,400 people, including Yazidi women and children, the country will provide an opportunity to start a new life by launching a special family reunification program.

The Department of Immigration will begin accepting applications on December 1, 2023, under a new interim government policy for displaced Yazidis and other survivors of ISIS militants.

The International Organization for Migration in Iraq will support clients in completing forms and applications. Up to 400 eligible principal applicants and their eligible family members will be able to come to Canada through this program. It will remain in effect until the Ministry of Immigration receives the planned number of applications — or until December 31, 2026.

More about the program

  1. The primary applicant must be an Iraqi citizen residing in Iraq and planning to live outside of Quebec.
  2. Distant relatives will need to provide a formal declaration explaining their relationship to the applicant.

All approved claimants will receive Jobseeker's Allowance for one year and have access to resettlement benefits, including 12 months of mental health support cover.

More information on how to apply will be provided on the IRCC website once the interim public policy takes effect on December 1, 2023.
