Newfoundland and Labrador reconnects with Europe

The province has re-launched air service to the Old World.

The province of Newfoundland and Labrador has opened air service to Europe for the first time since 2019. A permanent route will be launched from 2024, connecting St. John's International Airport and London's Gatwick Airport.

Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey came to the Nov. 15 ceremony:

"This is a day for celebration in Newfoundland and Labrador. At long last, we have a direct link to Europe – a connection we helped facilitate, a connection that will unlock endless opportunities for our province. Thanks to our partners at the St. John’s International Airport Authority and WestJet for continuing to work with our government through the storm of global economic challenges."

The flight will operate seasonally for the next three years, three days a week, from May through October.

The provincial budget for 2023 included CA$ 1.5 million to support air transportation development in Newfoundland and Labrador.
