Edmonton police have made progress in a double homicide investigation

A child and his father were killed in a prank last week.

Edmonton police have shared with citizens surveillance photos of the murder suspects. On Nov. 9 around noon, a 41-year-old man and his 11-year-old son were killed at a gas station next door to a shopping mall in Alberta's capital city. The investigation is still ongoing.

The victims were quickly identified. The man's name was Harpreet Singh Uppal and he was identified as a member of an organized criminal gang. This gang is involved in drug trafficking. The police are confident that Uppal's murder is related to his criminal life and the boy was a collateral victim. The child was not hit by accident, Uppala's son was killed deliberately.

Officers are asking anyone with any information about the suspects or their vehicle to contact law enforcement immediately:

"Sometimes a seemingly insignificant detail can be immensely helpful to our investigation, and we encourage anyone with information they believe may be related to this shooting to call us," a police officer told the press.

Earlier Sunday, law enforcement released photos of the suspects' vehicle, and a short video. It shows the suspects getting out of a black stolen BMW near a gas station and disappearing from view before running back to their car and driving away.

Investigators say the suspects ran up to Uppal's white SUV and then fired shots before returning to their vehicle and driving away. Uppal and his son died at the scene.

Police are also investigating a possible connection between the shooting and a burned 2012 BMW X6 found on a road nearby. The burning vehicle was found shortly after the murder.
