A "whites only" meeting ad has been spotted in B.C.
Racist flyers flooded a town in eastern Canada.
The Center for Israel and Jewish Affairs had a rough start to the week. First, the organization delved into the story of an SS veteran being invited to the Canadian Parliament, and then it was "disgusted" to learn about a certain program of the city of Port Coquitlam in British Columbia designed...for whites only.
A small town (population less than 60,000) in eastern Canada gained notoriety after social media and media outlets drew attention to posters circulating there. The flyers announced a meeting for moms and kids with the following text:
"Get rid of diversity and join other proud parents of European children as we create an environment where our children can feel like they belong. Invest in your child's sense of well-being and racial identity by giving them the gift of time spent amongst their own people — because they deserve it."
After local residents and activists (such as Moms Against Racism) drew attention to the flyers, they mysteriously disappeared. This was also noted by the mayor of the city, Brad West, who sent his staff to look for the ads, but never recovered a single copy. Nevertheless, there are enough photos already floating around the web.
West thanked the citizens for their vigilance and expressed the municipality's position:
"The City of Port Coquitlam condemns this in the strongest terms and promotes an environment without hate."
The incident has sparked a broad discussion in the city, and that, according to activist Kerry Scavers, is a positive result. Silence and ignoring problems has never led to their solution.
