Festival of Ukrainian culture started in Toronto

Songs, dances, national cuisine, craft market and more await the guests.

The annual Festival of Ukrainian Culture opens today in Canada's largest city. It has been held since 1995, when Toronto became twinned with Kyiv, and showcases widely recognizable aspects of Ukrainian culture: music, dance, national cuisine, fine arts and folk crafts. The Festival attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors — not only from Toronto and not even just from Canada, but also from the United States and other countries.

This year the Ukrainian Festival in Toronto's Bloor West Village will last three days: September 15, 16 and 17. On September 15 at 5pm the official opening took place, and from 7pm the entertainment program will start on several stages with songs and dances (on Runnymede Rd., Durie St. and Windermere Ave.). The festivities will continue until 11pm.

On September 16, stalls with food, drinks, souvenirs and other assorted goods open at 9am. At 11am everyone interested march in solidarity along Bloor St. W. from High Park to Jane St. And already at 12:15 there will be the opening of the main festival stage — almost simultaneously with three other venues. One of the central events of the Festival, the Gala Show, will take place there at 7pm. At 11pm the celebration is interrupted until Sunday morning. However, on the night from September 16 to 17 everyone will be able to go to the after-party. This year the event celebrates its anniversary, and therefore promises to be especially loud.

At 11:30 on September 17, the Ukrainian Festival once again opens its metaphorical doors to guests. Throughout the day, Ukrainian artists will perform non-stop at all venues. In addition, as on the previous two days, visitors will be able to buy food, drinks and goods, relax in the garden, learn something new about Ukraine in the cultural pavilion, walk through the craft market. Entertainment is provided for adults and children. And on September 16 and 17 you can visit the unique immersive exhibition "Ukraine: Our Home".

The closing ceremony of the Festival will take place on September 17 on the main stage from 6:30pm to 7:00pm.
