Hurricane Lee will bring bad weather to Canada's Maritime provinces
And there's a chance that rain and high winds alone won't do the trick.
The exact path of Hurricane Lee, which is moving quite slowly, through the Maritime Provinces region remains somewhat uncertain, but there is little doubt that it will affect these provinces. It is likely that "Lee" will bring with it rainfall, gusty winds, high surf and probably storm surges.
According to the latest forecasts, "Lee" will weaken as it moves northward over the next few days and will enter an area of enhanced "wind shear" and cooler ocean temperatures.
However, it is expected to become a Category 1 hurricane on Saturday as "Lee" moves into coastal areas. As it slowly moves through the coastal region over the weekend, the hurricane will move into the post-tropical storm category, continuing to bring tropical storm force winds.
The post-tropical storm promises to bring rain and strong winds that will spread from the center of the storm and cover a large area. This could cause damage to trees that could sever power lines, resulting in widespread power outages.
Over the next few days, the trajectory of Hurricane Lee's track will be refined and it will become clearer which areas of the Maritime Provinces are expected to receive the most rainfall and which areas are expected to receive the highest winds. There will also be a clearer picture of storm surges and how they may coincide with high tide.
