Hot weekend...
Weekend weather in central B.C. led to increased wildfire activity over the weekend.
The British Columbia Wildfire Service (BCWS) said the weather over the weekend caused "very aggressive fire activity" on several active fire hotspots in the province's central fire zone.
According to the BCWS, the area encompassing the Vanderhoof and Fort St. James fire zones had lower than expected humidity over the weekend, accompanied by hot temperatures and high winds.
The B.C. Fire Service says these weather conditions have led to increased fire activity in the region. This prompted authorities to issue evacuation and evacuation preparedness orders in rural areas of the regional districts of Bulkley-Nechako and Fraser-Fort George.
Due to the Lucas Lake fire in Bulkley-Nechako, local officials have issued an evacuation order for residents of homes west of Kenny Dam. Residents in homes east of the dam are on evacuation alert.
Fraser-Fort George has issued an evacuation order for residents in one of the Electoral Areas due to the Great Beaver Lake wildfire, which was discovered by the fire department in early July and has since grown to 107 square kilometers.
More than 430 active wildfires remain in B.C. at this time. In total, more than 2,070 fires have been reported this season, burning more than 22,200 square kilometers.
