Tourism in Newfoundland and Labrador will blossom in the near future

The federal and provincial governments are investing almost CAD 3 million in the tourism industry.

The Government of Canada sees great potential for Newfoundland and Labrador's attractions, experiences and tourism facilities to attract tourists from around the world. Developing the tourism sector in the province will strengthen the economy and create new jobs. Newfoundland's northern peninsula and west coast boast some of the most scenic views and unique attractions in the province. Therefore, the Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador are investing in the province's communities to help unlock tourism potential, create new opportunities and grow the industry.

This week, recently appointed Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency Gudie Hutchings announced CAD 2,196,768 worth of federal government investment in 7 tourism-related projects in Newfoundland and Labrador. And Andrew Furey — Premier of the province — announced that the local government is investing an additional CAD 547,795 in the industry. The investment is aimed at supporting the private sector and local tourism businesses in the province.

This investment will modernize housing, organize events and festivals, promote the region as a destination for tourists and create new world-class attractions.

Atlantic Canada's economy is booming, and the Public Policy Forum has released a report that confirms the region is on the cusp of exponential growth. The Government of Canada is committed to helping the tourism industry reach its full potential and supporting sustainable economic growth in rural areas.
