Canadians have intestinal problems

Doctors ask residents to be more attentive to their health.

More and more Canadians are getting inflammatory bowel disease. This group includes two diagnoses, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Both are accompanied by pain, chronic fatigue, ulcers, fever and other unpleasant symptoms. In addition, those who suffer from them are 35% more likely to have depression. Now only 0.8% of Canadians are diagnosed with these diseases, but doctors are frightened by the rate at which they are spreading. Diagnostic statistics have risen dramatically in recent years.

Inflammatory bowel diseases are not contagious and are not transmitted from person to person. They are caused by an unfortunate set of circumstances — bad ecology and genetics. It is impossible to influence your heredity, but it is possible to reduce the impact of external factors. The main ones are unhealthy diet, stress and violation of intestinal microflora.

Doctors urge residents to eat more fruits and vegetables, reduce consumption of processed meat products (sausages, sausages, ham, etc.), sweet sodas, and alcohol. Increasing the amount of fiber in the diet alone will not help, you must also stop indulging in alcohol and fatty, fried meat. Also, antibiotics must be used only as a last resort, and only if prescribed by a doctor. Too many Canadians abuse them and try to take them when they have symptoms of an acute respiratory infection. It does not help with viral infections; antibiotics only kill the bacteria. However, they also kill beneficial gut flora, and lower the body's immunity. As a result, the body becomes prone to inflammation.

In addition, a significant cause of such ailments is chronic stress. And it's not just stressful work. Many Canadians, especially young Canadians, are sleeping less. At night, they prefer to sit on the Internet, chat with friends on social networks and consume all kinds of content. Doctors warn that such leisure time is costly in the future. Chronic sleep deprivation opens the door to many diseases far more dangerous than IBD.
