Quebec is trying to fix the labor market problems by attracting more immigrants

The province will allocate additional funds to support immigrants.

Finance Minister Eric Girard says he wants to solve the problem of labor shortage in Quebec by encouraging immigration to the provincial regions. Girard plans to launch an integration project that would help immigrants develop in sectors of tourism, health, and the battery industry.

He also said that speaking French allows immigrants to settle more quickly in Quebec, so the government will invest CAD 213,5 million in organizations that create remote-learning French courses and help immigrants settle in. In all, the Government of Quebec will allocate CAD 510 million for the integration of immigrants over the next five years.

"To receive more permanent immigrants, we need to be able to increase immigration in the region outside of Montreal. This would be good because outside of Montreal it will be definitely an environment where they can learn French but we need to help them," Girard added.

The politician admits that his plan is not easy to implement. To begin with, it is necessary to make sure that the regions have settlement services and that locals are positive about the possible influx of immigrants. In addition, there must be confidence that newcomers can find affordable housing. The housing shortage is happening both in Quebec and in the rest of the provinces.
