Electronic declarations will reduce queues at Canada's airport
Passengers at another airport can fill out declarations in advance to save time upon arrival.
Beginning October 13, travelers arriving at Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport, province of Manitoba, are able to fill out declarations in advance with ArriveCAN.
The governmental ArriveCAN application is used to fill out immigration and customs declarations. The declaration is completed within 72 hours prior to arrival in Canada and saves time at the airport. Previously, only those arriving at Toronto Pearson, Montreal-Trudeau and Vancouver international airports had this option.
It is also reported that in the coming months, the opportunity to fill out a declaration in the app will be available to passengers arriving at international airports in the following cities:
- Halifax;
- Calgary;
- Edmonton;
- Toronto (Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport);
- Ottawa;
- Quebec City.
It is estimated that filling out declarations in advance in the ArriveCAN app reduces the waiting time at the airport of arrival by about a third. During the pandemic, using the app was mandatory, but now it is optional.
