Canadians who speak English and French earn more
That's why you have to learn languages!
Statistics Canada released data from a study showing that Canadians who speak both English and French earn more.
The average income of people who speak both English and French in Canada was $60,550 CAD, nearly 10 per cent higher than the average income of people who speak only English ($55,250 CAD) and about 40 per cent higher than those who speak only French ($43,040 CAD).
This trend has been seen in every province, and the most significant difference is observed in Quebec: in Montreal, those who know both English and French earn on average 40% more than those who speak only one of these languages.
A large gap was also found in Toronto: employees who spoke only English earned an average of $59,600 CAD, while bilinguals earned $78,400 CAD, a difference of almost 32 percent.
Overall, the data show a decline in the number of French speakers across the country and an increase in linguistic diversity: this year, a record was set for the number of Canadians whose first language was neither English nor French.
