Quebec advocates vaccination against monkeypox

The provincial authorities are concerned about the rising rate of disease.

Quebec has announced increased access to monkeypox vaccine amid the spread of the disease beyond Montreal.

The national director of public health, Luc Boileau, held a press conference on August 4 in which he said that until now vaccination efforts have been focused on men living in or visiting Montreal. But now men throughout the province who report having sexual contacts with other men other than a regular partner will be eligible to receive the vaccine.

He said the total number of cases is not that high, but authorities are concerned about the spread of the infection to other regions, so it is strongly recommended that anyone who might be at risk be vaccinated.
