A new government project in the context of the delayed issuance of passports
Canadians consider the innovation useless.
Resident dissatisfaction with the speed of passport issuance reached its peak when, despite thousands of overtime hours of staff, the situation did not change dramatically.
In response to complaints, Passport Canada has launched a website where you can track the number of passports issued in the previous week, how many employees are working overtime and how many new employees have been hired by the agency.
The innovation was cooly received: people stuck in queues, who cannot get to submit documents, call it useless. Reports of long delays at the Passport Canada hotline also began to appear: some callers say that even an hour-long wait does not always result in a conversation with an operator.
Nevertheless, Minister of Family, Children and Social Development Karina Gould's statement sounds optimistic: "The weekly passport issuance over the past 5 weeks has remained relatively stable, at a higher level than before. Between 45,000 and 48,000 passports have been issued in each of the past five weeks, with the exception of the week of July 4, when 54,000 passports were issued."
It is also reported that for those who will need a passport urgently, it is planned to introduce additional fees. Moreover, the traveler will be required to prove the need for the document.
