Air Canada stops taking pets in the luggage compartment

There have already been cases where pets have been lost.

Transporting a pet to Canada was already complicated. Now, because of problems with lost luggage and a record number of cancelled flights, the country's largest airline has temporarily banned the carriage of pets in the luggage compartment.

This is a reasonable solution in this situation, because no one wants animals to suffer. Québec airline Air Transat and Toronto Pearson airport staff recently caused the dog, lost along with other luggage, to spend 21 hours in a cage. Fortunately, no one was hurt, although the customs officers had to take the animal out of the cage themselves and give it water.

Over the long holiday weekend, as Canada celebrated the national holiday, Air Canada again came out on top in flight delays among the world's major carriers. 65% of its flights arrive late. However, the situation is similar in many European countries now, where airlines are also unable to cope with the load and proactively cancel flights.

Air Canada's restriction on pets in luggage will remain in effect until September 12, 2022. Those who have already purchased a seat for a pet will not be affected.

Air Canada's competitor, WestJet Airlines, is not going to turn away pet owners yet. But it also has many flight delays, so it's hard to say how risky it is to trust them with their beloved pets.
