But the Canadian government believes it is better to help with money.

MP Charlie Angus tweeted that Canada could rename Charlotte Street in Ottawa, where the Russian embassy is located, after Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky as a sign of support. Other Canadian MPs are outraged by half-measures by Canada and EU countries: Germany, in their view, should have given up Russian gas back in 2014 and started buying it from Canada or someone else.

The Government of Canada plans to impose additional economic sanctions against Russia, in addition to bans on monetary transactions and buy crude oil. The new sanctions will be announced later.

On March 1, 2022, Canada pledged an additional $100 million CAD in humanitarian aid for Ukraine: this money will be used for emergency medical care (including trauma care), support for displaced populations, water and food. Canada has also pledged up to $620 million CAD in loans to support Ukraine's economic sustainability.

The question of accepting Ukrainian refugees was raised by many Canadian politicians and public figures, including Ontario Prime Minister Ford, even before the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine began. Ontario Labour Minister MacNaughton has said that unions and employers are already reporting the possibility of providing at least 20,000 jobs to refugees.
