New immigration opportunities, major selections and other news of the week

The news on October 11 through October 17 will definitely make potential immigrants happy!

Immigration selections

In one week, Canada held several large-scale draws and invited almost 2,000 people to immigrate:

  • Nova Scotia has called 330 candidates as part of a stream of labour market priorities;
  • B.C. held two immigration selections at once, one with 409 Canadian professionals and graduates, and the other with 10 entrepreneurs looking to buy or start a business in the province;
  • Manitoba selected 426 people within the skilled and graduate category;
  • 681 candidates were selected in Express Entry's selection process for provincial immigration program participants;
  • Alberta shared the results of a long-standing selection process that invited 275 candidates.

Jobs in Canada

The big news of the week is that the province of New Brunswick will hold three online job fairs that are open to members of six working professions. You can learn about provincial immigration opportunities and interview with local employers to get a contract to work in Canada.

Graphic designers are also lucky — they can get a job in Canada until spring 2022, and their employers will not have to complete a labour market impact assessment. This is important, because such an assessment is one of the factors why Canadian companies don't want to hire foreigners.

Canada continues to face a shortage of workers. The statistics agency has released new data showing that there were more than 700,000 job openings in the second quarter of 2021. A separate statistic has emerged for the province of Prince Edward Island. There are now particularly in demand 18 professions in a wide variety of areas.

Another development that is sure to please those who plan to live and work in Canada: the country is testing a four-day workweek. Importantly, wages remain the same. A number of Canadian companies have already switched to the new schedule.

Life in Canada

The long-awaited opening of the border between the United States and Canada has finally happened. Canadian residents can now travel to the States by land or air, but only if they are fully vaccinated, and there are restrictions on vaccines.

Housing prices in Canada are rising, and the cost of renting is rising with them. However, there are still cities where you can rent an apartment or house at reasonable prices. Rent there is $500-1000 CAD cheaper than in Toronto.
